CRC 1333 researcher Karina Abitaev from project A07 has successfully applied for funding to do research in a laboratory in the USA. The CRC board approved her application for funding within the CRC 1333-funding program for docotoral researchers “Research Stay Abroad”.
She will be staying there for 4-5 months at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, Gaithersburg, USA) in the Working Group of Prof. Dr. Yun Liu.
Prof. Dr. Yun Liu is a soft matter physicist in the small angle neutron scattering group at NIST Center for Neutron Research, and also an affiliated faculty at the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Delaware. He has codeveloped a method to study the porosity and surface heterogeneity of porous materials using non-invasive scattering techniques.
Karina proposed to use this technique to study the following research topics:
1. Roughness and particle size of ZnO nanoparticles deposited on polystyrene colloidal crystals
2. Structure of bimodal porous organic/inorganic materials
3. Characterization of the surface morphology during the functionalization of SBA-15
We wish Karina all the best for her research in the USA!
