Dr. Karl-Heinz Baringhaus

Thursday, November 14, 2024, 2:00-3:00 pm

Sanofi-Aventis Deutschland GmbH, Industriepark Hoechst

Topic: Automation and Digitalization of Chemistry at Sanofi

Automation and digitalization of chemistry plays an important role in modern drug discovery. This requires a robust technical infrastructure as vast amounts of data from various sources needs to be integrated by standardization and reliable data management.

This presentation illustrates several aspects of automation and digitalization in pharmaceutical industry by examples. For instance, in early development we are building a digital application consisting of all our instruments and by applying one single standardized data model.  This digital tool manages samples, experiments, inventory, data, equipment, and workflows. While this application is currently running in a non-GMP area we aim an extension into GMP analytics.

The second example deals with a self-driving chemical lab powered by artificial intelligence. Our self-driving chemistry lab will be fully automized and based on high -throughput experimentation. It aims to fully automate the DMTA cycle (design–make– test–analyze). Out of a huge chemical space and a few thousand biological assays our AI lab enables a fully automatic design, synthesis and profiling of new molecules speeding up successful drug discovery by ~30-50%.

The CRC cordially invites all who are interested to the lecture.
